floating a new Masto admin hashtag
I wonder if it would be worth trying to create a new hashtag for #furrymastoadmin types to discuss things. #weirdmastoadmin? #mastoadminswhowereherebeforeekonmuskboughttwitter?
It is kinda neat that there is a distinct possibility of *everyone* suddenly being here on Mastodon but I have been on the Internet since before the WWW existed and I have seen communities on it get irrevocably changed by too many new arrivals, and I am feeling an urge to make sure the space we have carved out here remains viable. Perhaps I am being overly defensive and everyone will see the sense in a lot of the social conventions we’ve built here and adopt them, I was pleased to see the admin of a “journalist” instance come around on the existing conventions around content warnings for politics/news, for instance!
But I think I’m gonna pin those hashtags in a column for now and see if anyone else shows up with things to say about these issues.
Last week I discovered that Akko - the mechanical keyboard manufacturer - had many Pepe stickers in their official Discord. I politely suggested this was an oversight and asked them to address this. I was banned from the Discord a few seconds later.
At that point I emailed support. No answer. I emailed again 2 days ago, asking why I was banned for bringing up their fascist-aligned images in their Discord and still haven't heard back. They were very responsive when I bought their switches a month ago.
At this point I'm not buying any more Akko products.
Using CWs descriptively and liberally gives your followers and instancemates a choice for whether to see your posts, without having to outright mute, block, or unfollow. It helps keeps our communities a pleasant experience for everyone.
Inkscape 1.2 highlight 💡 of the week:
Have you tested the new "Split Path" command in #Inkscape 1.2?

The people on the bird site were aghast that we thought it cool these LED dance poles were powered by Raspberry Pi.
We got in a lot of trouble. It was most unexcellent.
Are Pi-powered poles cool here?

we're now on 6 hours for posts, and up to a week for boosts
I don't expect this to be usable for another day or so lmao
(yes this is an attempt to try to get other instances to start sending posts to here again)
by looking at how often the audio system requests more samples and doing the resampling on my end, I now have a near spot on sync
after the first buffer segment, because of course there's an issue
the audio data goes through like
my software -> windows (50 ms buffer) -> resampling -> audio system (??? ms buffer) -> playback
I'm gonna need to do as much in my software as possible, aren't I
