it will pop if the steam gets trapped when extruded, but this hotend is absolute garbage, it has a big melting chamber and is open towards the top, so it would make sense for the steam to escape upwards instead
It's popping a bit as well though, when I'm not feeding a ton of plastic into it

@ChlorideCull wet PLA will pop when it’s extruded. That’s not a sound I’ve heard a printer make before.
What temperature are you printing that PLA at?
