Onto writing a blog post!

Every now and then I read about how the fediverse is gonna go the way of email, mostly in terms of having to fulfill a bunch of extra requirements to talk with larger instances, and well, yeah. That's not a bad thing.

As much as people complain with email that it's hard to avoid getting relegated to spam by Google and Microsoft, their requirements for not being put there is well documented, reasonable (mandated extensions to make sure email claiming to come from your domain is sent by your domain, and hasn't been tampered with en-route, as well as being in a network that has a functional abuse reporting system), and both have portals that let you find out *why* you get relegated to spam.

We're gonna get the same here, and in some ways we already have, driven by smaller instances instead of bigger instances - we block domains for not fulfilling our own arbitrary requirements all the time. We talk about what perception running a certain piece of software gives off. We have ASNs affiliated with bad actors. All that's missing is attaching a score to these factors and automating the administration.

Also found out I wiped some stuff by accident when I flashed the BIOS manually, like model number and service tag. Whoops. I have the original BIOS dump though, so I can fix that later.

I have somehow managed to misplace a PCI-E network card. And all my PCI network cards. And my USB network adapter.

tried to replace the broken inductor on the mobo, failed terribly because skinny tips on soldering irons are garbage, and I won't have it fixed in two days

a two-stroke engine is more inefficient, but in return it's incredibly simple, and doesn't need any timed valves, or even an exhaust valve at all, you just need a simple check valve for the intake

making an interference engine would necessitate adding timed valves, giving you all the drawbacks (timing off = broken engine, higher mechanical complexity) with none of the benefits (burns more efficiently, doesn't need to burn oil)
