a bug (specifically a caterpillar)

found a friend

I am insanely lucky

This has been in my car, and something has managed to focus the sun light to a point where it caught on fire - thankfully it didn't spread

All transparent objects are from now on banned from my car

if you own a real license for IDA Pro you work for CIA. if you have created something you call a "closed species" you work for monsanto

climate change

I'll be honest, I didn't realize how much we actually rely on fossil fuels until I found out that Paraffin wax, a common component in candles (especially cheaper ones), is derived from petroleum, coal, or oil shale

@noiob I prefer casts if its a well defined operation that's relatively simple, like casting between number types, where you don't really need any additional parameters to do the conversion

I don't like casts if it's doing a more complex conversion, like parsing out a float from a string, which relies on locale etc

bug at work accidentally transed a lot of gender in the database

(there was a bug where it sometimes would always assign female in the field no matter what was actually input)

@dogo the sam hive probably nuked itself, you can manually restore the backup files it creates

@yarmo this instance runs mastodon, self-hosted. Uses 1.5 GB of RAM, fairly static (the VM has 2 GB allocated in total). Doesn't feel bloated to me, reasonable that extra memory is used for caching.

@flussence instead of an empty file, serve something short that will fuck with them, like something with an incorrect format (a list in a list for example) or something that will potentially cause a confusing error (a list with "0", "1", "2" etc)

@flussence what if you made the file never end, pump it out at a solid 1 Mbps, and just never stop pumping out data, like, just send a neverending

["aaaaaaaaaaaa

i bet it would run out of RAM

@flussence i wonder how many bots I could trap by making it only return my own instance directly in nginx - hoping they would then instantly request it again
