i'd put dirt rally in a minecraft-adjacent box for that

there's too many variables in it for rote memorisation or frame-perfect mechanics or toxic metagaming to work. (racing games absolutely can have all that, just look at gran turismo)

there's no such thing as perfection here and it's great because as soon as you stop trying to force yourself to win every time it becomes fun, which is the whole point of video games

@flussence I have played dirt rally against an actual rally driver, who pretty much agreed in that while there is a great amount of memorization in it, there is still a pretty big element of skill in just having to handle a big chunk of metal flying down a tiny road, behaving completely predictably but acting on unpredictable events, it's all in how you handle things not going as you planned

she was pretty cool to speak to, and this is also why rally and rally cross is superior to tarmac racing

and yeah it’s not so much about going the fastest as just going, i keep averaging 6th place but i win at the end anyway because the AI gets aggro and totals their car
